Thought New York was over hybrid desserts? Nope, the birthplace of the Cronut was just getting started—in the same summer that gave us the ice-cream hot dog and the ice-cream taco, we're getting another crossbread treat in the form of the mufgel.

What the hell is a mufgel, you ask? The brainchild of Scott Rossillo—the bagel artist who sparked the rainbow-bagel craze with his Crayola-bright creations at East Williamsburg's the Bagel Store—the mufgel's part muffin and part bagel. Treat it like a simple bagel with classic cream cheese or own its Franken-treat true nature with a schmear of cannoli or s'mores cream cheese.

The full list of mufgel flavors is not yet released, but Rossillo has teased on Instagram that hybrid enthusiasts can look forward to at least three flavors: carrot cake, chocolate-chip crumb and, for a limited time, Fruity Pebbles with Funfetti cream cheese. If it's all a little hard to envision, you can just try it out for yourself on Saturday when the mufgel drops at Rossillo's shop.
