The wizarding world of Harry Potter may officially be coming to New York next April, when the smash-hit London play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens on Broadway. However, for those who can’t bear the thought of waiting almost a year to experience some Potter magic right here in NYC, you only have to venture a few blocks farther uptown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
A new Harry Potter-themed tour of the museum, operated by the events company e.t.c., takes guests on a magical journey through the institution's iconic collections, highlighting objects and treasures that resemble items mentioned in the books. The itinerary includes everything from a real castle (yes, in the Met) to potential Horcruxes! (Now that you mention it, something always did seem a little off about William the Hippo.)
The tour, called “Griffins, Goblets and Gold,” was launched by e.t.c. to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original book’s publication. Though it was inspired by a children’s book, the experience isn’t just for kids. In an interview with DNAinfo, Evan Levy, the founder of e.t.c., insists that they're able to accommodate any age group and modify the experience for specific requests. Which is great news for the young at heart, hoping to discover a little magic.
