New York is about to get a brand-new park right on the water.

Pier 55, the island park spearheaded by Barry Diller, was officially approved by the Army Corps of Engineers this week, clearing the way for construction on the striking new green space to begin this summer. It’s expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The 2.7-acre park at the end of West 13th Street was designed by Signe Nielsen. In addition to rolling hills and ample greenery, it will boast three performance venues, including an amphitheater that fits 700 people.

Once it’s completed, the $130 million park will be one of the largest privately funded parks in the country.
