The moving annual monument to those lost in the 9/11 attacks “Tribute in Light” returned to the Manhattan skyline last night. The two powerful beacons were turned on a little after 7pm and remained shining until the dawn.

The tribute started out as a temporary memorial on the six-month anniversary of the attacks, and was organized by the Municipal Art Society and Creative Time. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum now oversees the tradition.
