There are few things most New Yorkers would pay $1,000 for. Rent? Of course. A really nice leather jacket? Sure. How about a mighty-tasty Mint Julep? Okay—before you say, "go home, you're drunk," this cocktail is for charity, you guys. Woodford Reserve—a Kentucky bourbon brand—recently launched a $1,000 Mint Julep in honor of the Kentucky Derby, and we couldn't resist an opportunity to find out how the cocktail is made. Oh, and ask why the hell does it cost that much?

This 11-year old tradition, curated by Master Distiller Chris Morris, asks fashion brands like Hamilton Shirts to design a fancy pewter mug and gets one talented mixologist, like Sleep No More's Julie Renee Williams, to craft a refreshing and unique cocktail for folks to buy at the race. (You can purchase the cup and the ingredients online, if you can’t make it to Kentucky by Sunday). This year’s special Mint Julep pays tribute to pecan pie, and we must admit, it's pretty delicious. We let Williams take over the Time Out New York bar and teach us how to concoct her swanky beverage, so check out what we learned in the video below. Get ready to turn up for juleps!
