Hate to fly? Pretty soon you may be spending a lot less time doing it.

Industrial designer Charles Bombardier has created a prototype for a supersonic plane that would travel at an astounding Mach 24. That's 12 times faster than a Concorde. The plane, dubbed The Antipode, would potentially be able to carry 10 passengers at a rate of 12,430 miles an hour. Or roughly the speed it takes you to get to the office cafeteria when you hear there's free food.

How does this speedy little jet work? Well, the wings are outfitted with rocket boosters that propel it to 40,000 feet where the engines then burn oxygen from the atmosphere using a supersonic combustion ramjet engine.

Don't get too excited, though. Even Bombardier admits that his impressive concept is most likely decades away.
