John Sayles

Hip (but relatively small) McSweeney's seems a perfect match to publish novelist and filmmaker John Sayles's latest historical epic, A Moment in the Sun. Even though Sayles has been nominated for a National Book Award, other publishers weren't biting, so the director went, characteristically, with an independent for this sprawling, early-20th-century work.
