Time Out says

Skloot's The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks ended up on an incredible number of 2010 nonfiction best-of lists. It's the story of an underprivileged black woman in the ’50s whose tumorous cells were taken from her body without her knowledge and later replicated and utilized for scientific purposes. As useful as her cells were for polio vaccines, among other things, Lacks's family was never compensated.
