The hardy American writer, best known for his Frank Bascombe novels (including the Pulitzer-winning Independence Day) and short-story collection Rock Springs, reemerged last year with Canada. Now in paperback, the segmented tale is about a teenager exiled to the north after his parents are arrested for attempting to rob a bank.
