Though Sara Gruen’s Ape House bears little resemblance to her wildly popular breakthrough novel, Water for Elephants, each book’s strongest aspect is its focus on animal-human relationships, in this case a family of bonobo apes. However, the author's good intentions go awry in this second novel.
