Ecstatic Music Festival

Long before Kickstarter, the pioneering souls of Bang on a Can were crowdsourcing tunes for their house band, the All-Stars, with the People's Commissioning Fund. This year's PCF splash, presented under the Ecstatic Music Festival banner on Thu 14, includes fresh pieces by Anna Clyne, Dan Deacon, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Paula Matthusen, alongside selections by Tyondai Braxton and Fay Kueen Wang. On Sat 16, earthy soul chanteuse Imani Uzuri fronts improvising new-music ensemble Numinous in newly commissioned music by Joseph C. Phillips Jr., and on Wed 20, Big Farm, an all-star art-rock group led by Rinde Eckert and Steven Mackey, shares a bill with the JACK Quartet.
