A classic monodrama that German composer Hans Werner Henze wrote in Havana in 1969 and ’70s, El Cimmaròn is based on the memoirs of Esteban Montejo, a runaway slave. This Center for Contemporary Opera staging, thought to be the work's second New York performance and its first since the ’80s, stars baritone Eric McKeever; Eugenia Arsenis is the stage director and Sara Jobin the conductor.
