Conductor Alan Gilbert has an affection for HK Gruber's sardonic theater works, so it should be exciting to hear him conduct Juilliard's AXIOM ensemble in this two-act opera (about a beautiful pig). The puppet-and-video technicians of Giants Are Small—the same outfit that triumphed with the New York Philharmonic's staging of Ligeti's Le grand macabre—are responsible for the staging.
