Violinist Johnny Gandelsman is a musician as entrepreneurial as he is talented—which is a lot, in case you've somehow not yet caught him with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, the Knights or Brooklyn Rider. Given what a busy guy he is, we're surprised to learn that tonight's show is his first solo recital in New York; for the occasion, he'll trace the instrument's history from Biber and Bach to Stravinsky and Glass.
