Ken Thomson, the longtime saxophonist of punk-jazz combo Gutbucket and the new clarinetist for the Bang on a Can All-Stars, takes up his bass clarinet alongside the JACK Quartet for a program devoted to Thomson's new album on the Cantaloupe Music label, Thaw. Brainy, gritty and visceral, the music leaps off the disc, but should really take on extra life in this live setting. Sharing the bill, International Contemporary Ensemble flutist and ringmaster Claire Chase plays pieces by Steve Reich and Mario Diaz de Leon.
