The New York Philharmonic's season-opening gala is a tribute to the music from films like Amarcord, The Leopard, Life Is Beautiful, Cinema Paradiso—and of course, the picture that gives this concert its name. Big guest stars will be helping the local orchestra play the music of the cinematic sweet life, including Joshua Bell, Renée Fleming and Josh Groban. (The Sept 16 concert will also include a non-musical guest star whose presence is nevertheless a special event: Martin Scorsese.)
