The long-celebrated Western Wind Ensemble has always made a point of playing music from all periods—but in the vocal sextet's 45th season, it seems to be going for a historic reach that's as broad as might be imagined. And so, in addition to its recent contemporary-minded CD (of Meredith Monk's Basket Rondo and Eric Salzman’s Jukebox in the Tavern of Love), it now brings us this staged version of a madrigal comedy by Orazio Vecchi that dates from 1594. The commedia dell'arte feel will be emphasized by the presence of a mime in Gama Valle's production.
