Offenbach's tuneful treatment of E.T.A. Hoffmann's engrossing yarns is a tougher sale at the Met than you'd think: Bartlett Sher's Kafkaesque production was not universally popular when it was introduced. But new casts always bring a chance for new insights. This time around, Yves Abel conducts a cast that includes Erin Morley as Olympia, Hibla Gerzmava as Antonia/Stella, Christine Rice as Giulietta and Thomas Hampson as the Four Villains.
