This vital composer—and singer for the likes of Philip Glass and Anthony Braxton—begins a new Stone residency with a program titled "Bielawa as Bard" (in the company of pianist Paul Vasile). The 8 and 10pm sets on Aug 13 are devoted to a duo of Bielawa (again, on vocals) and violinist Carla Kihlstedt (who also sings). The 8pm set on Aug 14 finds her joined by violinist Colin Jacobson and pianist Bruce Livingston. On Aug15 at 8pm, Bielawa will conduct the American Contemporary Music Ensemble in excerpts from an opera in progress. At 8 and 10pm on Aug16, she plays with cellist Joshua Roman and pianist Evelyne Luest. The final gigs, at 8 and 10pm on Aug 17, are devoted to further excerpts from Bielawa's opera. Concerts continue next week. See thestonenyc.com for details.
