When conductor-composer (and iPad advertisement star) Esa-Pekka Salonen blows through town, you might generally hope to hear him conduct a bit of his own music. But Salonen's programs with the Philharmonic Oct 16–18 are still attractive, given the pairing of Stravinsky's Firebird with two Beethoven items: the King Stephen overture and the Piano Concerto No. 1. The excellent Jeremy Denk is the soloist in the latter work. (Those with an unscheduled morning on Oct 16 should consider the $20 open rehearsal.)
