"Vienna: City of Dreams," Carnegie Hall's latest citywide, multidisciplinary arts celebrations, opens with a four-concert visit by Austria's musical crown jewel, appearing in its symphonic and operatic guises. Tonight, Franz Welser-Möst conducts Schoenberg's Friede auf Erden and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The Wed 26 program includes Mozart's Symphony No. 28, Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 and a recent piece by Johannes Maria Staud. On Feb 28, Danielle Gatti conducts a solid cast in Strauss's Salome, and on Mar 1 Andris Nelsons takes charge for a concert rendition of Berg's Wozzeck, with superb baritone Matthias Goerne playing the lead role. Related events will be taking place here and all over town through Mar 16; see carnegiehall.org/vienna.
