No one has risen from the dead, of course. But the music of the late Chelsea Hotel resident, critic and composer Virgil Thomson—as well as some works by his associates—is the focus of this program, led by pianist Jed Distler. Thomson's portraits of other bohemians—such as the 1928 work Miss Gertrude Stein as a Young Girl—reside on the bill alongside music by Lou Harrison, Aaron Copland, Gerald Busby and Scott Wheeler. (The latter two composers will join Pulitzer-winning author Tim Page for a panel discussion at the event.) Soprano Kamala Sankaram and violinist Julie Rosenfeld are also featured.
