Doug Varone and Dancers

The 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Festival presents Varone's new Mouth Above Water, a dark and emotional work inspired by Julia Wolfe's music "Cruel Sister," which is based on a folk tale in which two sisters fall in love with the same man. One kills the other and throws her bones into the sea. Musicians discover them and create an instrument that is then played at the sister's wedding.
