A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon

Most people think of Richert's coming-of-age comedy (adopted from his own novel) as an I-love-the-’80s lark, complete with floppy hairdos, overlong cable-knit sweaters and River Phoenix in his Tiger Beat–cutie phase. But the writer-director always envisioned a much darker film, so Richert recut it and added a new ending in 2008. That's the version screening tonight; catch it while you can.
