All That Jazz

Time has been surprisingly kind to Fosse’s nihilistic, autobiographical story of a hard-living director (Roy Scheider, never better) on the cusp of burning out for good. The dance numbers, especially the surreal “Bye Bye Love,” featuring dancers in artery costumes and Ben Vereen, are phenomenal, and not even Jessica Lange playing death can derail this update on 8 1/2.
