Time Out says

This early directorial effort from Eastwood features William Holden as a middle-aged divorcé who hooks up with a younger hippie chick (Kay Lenz). Surprisingly, neither of the leads shoots anybody or violates someone’s Miranda rights, and the mellow-yellow mood of Eastwood’s second directorial outing (after 1971’s Play Misty for Me) confused the action hero’s fans.
