Lives of Performers

It’s arguable that Babette Mangolte did her best photographic work in collaboration with experimental filmmaker Yvonne Rainer, and this abstraction of the backstage melodrama—acted out by real dancers “playing” themselves—does indeed boast some of the cinematographer’s more interesting compositions. Also on the bill is Hollis Frampton's "Critical Mass" (1971).
