Man of Iron

One of Wajda’s most popular and best-known films, this drama about the Polish Solidarity movement (complete with a cameo from the struggle’s figurehead, Lech Walesa) won the Palme d’Or and helped introduce the director to a new generation of filmgoers. It was also politically prescient, as the government seriously cracked down on pro-labor factions shortly after the film’s release.
