Despite—or perhaps thanks to—a ridiculously romanticized portrait of the borough after which the film was named, this stunningly beautiful erotic roundelay, immeasurably enhanced by Gordon Willis’s marvelous cinematography, remains the Woodman’s supreme masterpiece. We can't think of a better way to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
