Invariably, Tarkovsky’s films are glacially paced, but their rewards generally compensate for the butt-numbing combination of epic length and stately tracking shots. This one, in which a group of men take an allegorical journey through “The Zone” (a forbidding wasteland), is no exception. It screens with an eight-minute snippet from CNN's first-ever broadcast.
