Time Out says
Kiarostami’s breakthrough film is actually one of his weaker efforts: This story about a suicidal man is founded upon a facile homily, and the ending feels too gratuitously Brechtian. It’s a decent place to familiarize yourself with the director’s love of car-bound shot–reverse shot setups, but know that his true masterpieces lurk on the horizon.
