The House of Mirth

No doubt Merchant and Ivory would have done their usual stuffy job with Edith Wharton’s novel, but Davies brings to the project a mannered tremulousness that's oddly effective. Gillian Anderson also proves that she won’t be defined by Dana Scully for the rest of her career.
