The Life of Oharu

Once again, a heroine (Kinuyo Tanaka) turns forlornly to prostitution in a Mizoguchi film—but the poise and emotional wallop of this entry, one of the director’s best, make it a keeper. Kurosawa regular Toshiro Mifune appears in a small role as a samurai.
