The Passenger

When a stranger in the next hotel room dies, a journalist hungry for adventure (Jack Nicholson) swaps identities on a whim, becomes some kind of gunrunner and attracts the attentions of a delectable architecture student (Maria Schneider). Like so much of Antonioni’s initially misunderstood work, the film now seems forward-thinking, a careful blend of formal severity and mainstream appeal.
