The Pawnbroker

Rod Steiger’s performance somehow manages to be both stunning and a scenery chowdown at the same time, yet his tortured take on the doomed title character is really the only reason to see Lumet’s theatrical throwback. That, and the amazing shots of old-school New York in the background.
