Virtually ignored upon its initial release, Elia Kazan's torrid tale of a Tennessee Valley Authority man (Montgomery Clift) getting hot and heavy with a rural widow (Lee Remick) is now rightly recognized as a compelling drama that's just a step below East of Eden and A Streetcar Named Desire. Screenwriter Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York) will introduce the screening.
