New Amsterdam Market: Tomato Festival

Tomato season is in full swing, so stop by this special edition of the popular gastro market to enjoy some of the juicy red gems at their peak. Sample heirloom varieties of the late-summer beauts, such as Green Zebra, Gold Medal and Cherokee Purple; check out a canning demonstration by artisanal-tomato-sauce purveyor Spicy ’n Sweet; and taste gazpacho and other tomato-based dishes from Brooklyn Bean Company and Hot Bread Kitchen. If you’re still hungry, ten underground chefs will be serving salsas, bruschette and more in a special cook-off.
