New York City Honey Festival

Rockaway Beach Boardwalk at 96th St On Saturday, September 15, Brooklyn Grange Farm and the Rockaway Beach Club will cohost the second annual NYC Honey Festival on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk. The festival began as a lark in 2011 (a year after beekeeping became legal in NYC) but found its sweet spot: 1,000 people showed up and the event sold out of honey in two hours. This year, expect classes and discussions on honey production and beekeeping, along with extraction demonstrations and cooking classes from the Brooklyn Kitchen and Growing Chefs. Guests can stroll more than 20 vendors, such as Mike’s Hot Honey and Horman’s Best Pickles while sipping a honey beer from Sixpoint and grazing on arepas from Caracas Rockaway, burgers and hot dogs from Rippers and other boardwalk concessions. Look alive at 7pm, when 40 fleet-footed festival-goers will be able to score fried chicken with spicy honey butter sauce, collard greens, honey baked beans, honey cornbread, and honey tres leches cake for just $20.
