Tomcats Barbershop (CLOSED)
Time Out says
Friendly warning! We're working hard to be accurate. But these are unusual times, so please check that venues remain open.
Though Tomcats offers all the services of a regular salon, vintage American cuts à la Don Draper are the specialty at this ’50s-themed barbershop. The Greenpoint salon’s upgraded space, which nearly triples the size of the first location across the street, is decorated with a brown-and-cream tiled floor and vintage barber poles strategically placed throughout the interior. Owner Joey Covington runs the spot with his married childhood pals Renee and Alex Melnichenko. The team now operates with eight chairs, two washing stations and two church pews in the reception area (they’ll likely offer you a beer while you wait). Though the focus is on men’s cuts ($20–$30) and shaves ($30), ladies are also welcome to chops ($50, includes a blowout) and color ($50–$150). A wide selection of hair pomade includes products by Sweet Georgia Brown ($8), American Greaser Supply ($8) and Suavecito ($10), so you can maintain your stylish new ’do.
