Akwaaba Mansion

Akwaaba means "welcome" in Ghana's Twi language, a fitting name for this gorgeous restored 1860s mansion with 14ft ceilings, ornate fireplaces, a wide glass-enclosed porch and secluded garden. The rooms are decorated with African artifacts and textiles, and all feature private lavatories. The Black Memorabilia room sports a king-size bed, a Jacuzzi for two and black and white photographs from the Harlem Renaissance.

My husband and I had our wedding there last spring, and it was absolutley perfect. The staff is helpful and considerate, Monique Greenwood the owner is accessible to her patrons, the building is warm and welcoming, the breakfasts are cozy and delicious. Some of our wedding guests wanted to stay the night with us in the beautiful rooms upstairs! But, we told them, you don't have to go home .....but you have got to get out of here!! I highly recommend this b&b to anyone. It is a jewel in Brooklyn.
