Joyce Carol Oates

The wildly prolific Oates, who recently published a collection of suspenseful short stories (Give Me Your Heart) and a memoir about the death of her husband (A Widow's Story), has a new title this spring. In The Accursed, Oates travels back to early-20th-century Princeton to tie together historical fiction and vampire lit.
