Also known as Congregation Avavath Chesed, this Lexington Avenue landmark has been in continuous use longer than any other synagogue in New York City. A copy of a Budapest synagogue in Moorish Revival style, the building symbolizes perseverence and faith—appropriately, given that it required rehabilitation after an accidental 1998 fire. The spacious structure hosts musical performances regularly, particularly organ recitals.
