Every superhero has an origin story and so do the comics that provide those stories—only makes sense, right? Starting this fall, the History Society will showcase an exhibition of exclusive vintage comic books and superhero memorabilia. Among the items on display will be first-issue classics such as Batman No.1 and Action Comics No.1, which includes Superman’s first appearance. Also on display will be a functioning Batmobile from the original 1966 television series. Check out images of some of the great memorabilia on display.

Superheroes in Gotham is at the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library October 9, 2015February 21, 2016.
