Low-register reed specialist Brian Landrus curates a blockbuster two-night fest focusing on traditional and contemporary notions of soul jazz, as epitomized by the hip yet earthy stylings of Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith and other hardbop-era giants. The lineup for tonight features groups led by turntablist DJ Logic and organist Joey DeFrancesco—the latter of whom takes the stage with a stellar intergenerational crew including trumpeter Brian Lynch, saxist George Garzone, guitarist Nir Felder and drummer Billy Hart—as well as Landrus's nine-piece Kaleidoscope band, also including Hart and Felder. The Mar 15 bill is devoted entirely to a program of new songs by Grammy-winning bass-vocal phenom Esperanza Spalding.
