Alex McMurray spent most of his career in New Orleans and even though he has moved up here, he still retains a soulful and bluesy Cajun sensibility. His voice can gravitate into Waitsian territory, but lines his croon with a welcome playfulness, and tonight he plays from his latest album, How to Be a Cannonball. He's joined by talented former TONY staffer Cristina Black, whose pretty debut EP The Ditty Sessions featured the late Alex Chilton on bass. Tonight she's playing with a full band featuring Michael Leviton on piano and Mindy Asher on cello.
