An admirably diverse survey of the downtown avant-garde, the Kitchen’s 1981 series Aluminum Nights united Philip Glass, DNA, the Feelies, Laurie Anderson, Fab Five Freddy and many more. This weekend’s 20th-anniversary tribute event, Aluminum Music, hints at the borderless spirit of its namesake. Each night pairs two class-of-’81 alums: Performing Friday are percussionist-shaman Z’ev and exemplary punk-funk purveyors Bush Tetras; Saturday brings an inspired double bill of Peter Gordon’s proto-!!! avant-groove ensemble Love of Life Orchestra and trombonist George Lewis, who reprises his magnificent Homage to Charles Parker, a poignant and unsettling 1979 electroacoustic work.
