Time Out says

During the Civil Rights era, Angeline Butler (now a John Jay College professor of criminal justice) participated in sit-ins and demonstrations staged by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, including “freedom rides” that traveled throughout the South. Her story, along with those of 51 other women who worked for the SNCC, was chronicled in Hands on the Freedom Plow, a 2010 anthology. At this lecture, organized by storytelling group African Folk Heritage Circle, Butler will speak about her previous involvement with the SNCC, as well as her academic career.
