Bang on a Can Marathon

How do you make new music enticing, popular and enjoyable without compromising its creative and intellectual street cred? Ask Bang on a Canners Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe, who's annual 12-hour marathon attracts a wide swath New Yorkers. This year's highlights include Philip Glass sitting in with the BOAC All-Stars for his Music in Similar Motion, the Talea Ensemble offering the U.S. premiere of Fausto Romitelli's An Index of Metals, a performance of Glenn Branca's Ascension: The Sequel, and performances by JACK Quartet, Sun Ra Arkestra, Signal, Maya Beiser and Timo Andres.
