William “Bootsy” Collins legendarily invented the slinky bassline that locked James Brown’s “Sex Machine” into one of the most ecstatic funk grooves of all time, before joining Parliament-Funkadelic, George Clinton’s sprawling band of acid-funk explorers. Collins's most recent disc, 2011's Tha Funk Capital of the World, featured Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Chuck D, keeping the fun in funk music.
