The fourth annual Brooklyn Folk Fest kicks off on Jay Street, offering an array of globe-straddling talent: Over three days, you can sample authentic old-time ballads and blues, plus African and Balkan folk. Tonight's highlights include Peter Stampfel and the Ether Frolic Mob, Dennis Lichtman's Brain Cloud, Michael Daves, and the Whiskey Spitters. The evening kicks off with Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday Sing. Saturday features bluesman Blind Boy Paxton, plus old-timey sounds from the East River String Band, the Calamity Janes, the M Shanghai String Band and Whistling Wolves. Sunday lines up folky talent including Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues, Pat Conte, and Alice Gerrard with Beverly Smith. Plus, there are workshops and a square dance.
